Smoking in the Recording Studio

Okay my singing friends…..what's wrong with this picture?????!!!  Not that almost EVERYBODY smoked back in the late 50's/60's, but wow, to see the iconic Dionne Warwick smoking while recording is an 'image oxymoron', wouldn't you agree???

I started singing because of Dionne Warwick.  I was watching the Ed Sullivan Show and she came on singing 'Anyone Who Had A Heart', still one of my all time favorite songs.  I cried, and at that moment I realized that if a singer can move someone to tears, I wanted to do THAT.

And THAT started my love affair with Ms. Warwick and all things Bacharach & David.  Even much of my writing style was due to their collective influence.  Great songs, and a great voice to sing them.

Dionne Warwick is a confessed 'chain smoker'.  Her aging voice now suffers from her years of chronic smoking, but boy, back in the 'day', you would never have known she was puffing on cigs while recording that silky, shimmery voice.

That said, DON'T SMOKE if you want to be healthy and have a voice that lasts a lifetime.

Cheers, Beth
