In working with stroke patients who have impaired speech, I always start their sessions with singing.  It bypasses the speech area of the brain, and my opinion is that when they begin singing, they begin 'rewiring' the brain for speech.  They are actually creating new neural pathways that will help them speak again!  Singing to the rescue!!
